Dehumidifier Not Filling Reservoir

QUESTION FROM diane couture
Ok I just bought a dehumidifier that was returned to a Sears store. The plug was missing for the pump system. We are not using it and my husband plugged it good. No instruction manual so don't know how to use it or even to know if its working fine. Could you help me? Now shows 54/55% and thats seems where it stays. I had set it at 35% . If I am even doing that right. There's no water accumulation in the bucket. Its been on continuous since yesterday late afternoon. Should I have water? Do I need to set it different or is there something wrong with it. This is the model MDF-30AE Kenmore. If you can help me I would greatly appreciate it. I bought it from a guy that has a liquidation outlet.
thanks
ANSWER FROM HOME-WIZARD
Dear Diane:
If your dehumidifier is not filling water into the reservoir, the first thing to check is the setting of the humidity control setting. It sounds like you have already set this below the current humidity level in the room, which should have caused the dehumidifier to start extracting water. But since it is not, then if you haven't already tried, you might try to lower the setting even further to see if this starts it to produce water. Next, clean out all of the dust and dirt out of the inside of the dehumidifier and make sure that the filter is clean. If it is still not working, then the problem is likely that the refrigeration unit has gone bad, and this will require a professional appliance repair person.
Hope this is helpful.
