QUESTION FROM Ken T
We have a three year old Insinkerator Badger 7. Really powerful. Suddenly, we only get the motor buzz but no action. The wheel turns freely by hand or hex key. The teeth seem to turn pretty well but it's really rusty down there. Really thick, hilly rust buildup. Why would stainless steel rust? Oddly, I can give it a push start with a wooden spoon, with cold water running then hit the switch and it runs fine. I can turn it off and as long as the wheel is still turning even a little bit, it will spin up again. But if it comes to a complete stop it will not start again without another push start. After several thorough searches I have found no debris. I'm thinking the rust buildup might be causing the problem and in that case, there's no hope other than a replacement. Your thoughts?
ANSWER FROM HOME-WIZARD
Dear Ken T:
Since your garbage disposal is only three years old, it might be worthwhile to call Insinkerator's toll-free customer service number, and see what they suggest. Hopefully they can not only tell you exactly what is wrong, but if you are lucky, they may even send you the replacement parts (or unit) at no cost.
Here is Insinkerator's toll-free number: 800-558-5700.
Hope this is helpful.
